Sleeping well through the night can be difficult to do; especially when you have the stressors of COVID and an ever-changing world. If you have had a hard time sleeping lately, you can hopefully find a good night's sleep by simply changing your environment and making a few small changes. From adding a ceiling fan to your room to avoiding screen time before you go to bed, this article will list a few ways to get a good night's sleep almost every night.
Get a Ceiling Fan
Ceiling fans are good for a variety of reasons including that they make an almost white noise sound (which can put you right to sleep like a baby) and they help to circulate the air in your room which can make you feel a lot more comfortable, temperature-wise. The combination of these two things alone may instantly change how you sleep at night.
For instance, if you have a hard time getting your mind to stop racing when you've about to go to bed, then turning on a ceiling fan may help you drown out all of the inner chatter that you're experiencing which can help put you to sleep. Additionally, if the temperature is just a little too warm in your room, you may have a hard time falling asleep and staying that way. With some circulating air, however, you can hopefully feel a little better before you know it.
Try a Sound Machine
If you live in a really busy city and are always woken up by things like sirens or people chatting outside of your window late at night, then you may need something louder than a ceiling fan to drown out all of that sound. Instead, try investing in a sound machine. Sound machines are small machines (or phone apps) that play continuous sounds like white noise or nature sounds to help drown out additional noises and keep you asleep all night long. The steady sound will also help to calm any mind chatter that may be keeping you up at night.
No Screen Time Before Bed
If you are like most people you may look at social media, read the news, watch a show, or check emails right before bed. While this may seem like a great way for you to unwind at the end of every day, the light from the screens may actually be signaling your mind to think that it is daytime, which will just keep you up for longer. To help calm and relax your mind, try something like reading next to a lamp instead.
